MATTHEW SWEET & SUSANNAH HOFFS

Under The Covers Vol 2

Shout Factory

When Susanna Hoffs and Matthews Sweet teamed in 2006 on Under The Covers Vol 1 they it wasn’t as though they were the first to ever pay tribute to the songs of the ‘60s. However their ‘pop primer’ was so clearly lavished in love and affection for the music, that it became its own cult classic.

Vol 2 seems a slightly looser affair, but given they’ve stepped into the ‘70s that’s not a bad thing. Clearly the chemistry between Sweet and Hoffs – or Sid n’ Susie as they refer to themselves on these projects – is a beautiful thing, and the regard and sense of importance they hold for the material is importantly flavoured with a distinct sense of fun.

So even if you feel you don’t need to hear new versions of Fleetwood Mac’s Second Hand News, Mott The Hoople’s All The Young Dudes, Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain or Rod Stewart’s Maggie May, in this case I’m telling you that you most certainly do! It’s the love that makes all the difference.
